Sandy asks…
home remedies for gout?
does anyone know any home treatments for gout pain in feet?

admin answers:
I had it one time due to my Raynaud’s circulatory disease and my Doctor told me to eat pitted cherries. I thought she was nuts, but believe it or not, it really helped with the pain!
Good luck, I know what you’re going through!

Daniel asks…
Is it gout or could it be something else?
My husband has been having severe pain, redness and swelling in his right foot.It has been diagnoised as gout.It has not responded at all to the usual treatments such as steroid injections,NSAIDs,cocholine or narcotic pain meds.Im begining to wonder if it is indeed gout. What else could it be? He has no visible openings in his skin that would led one to think of an infectious process. Any help would greatly be appreciated as we are at the end of our rope.

admin answers:
Sounds like gout but as you say has not responded.
Alternative diagnoses
pseudogout (should respond to general measures)
septic arthritis (infection in the joint)
osteomyelitis (infection in the bone)
deep vein thrombosis (odd to only have it in the foot)
cellulitis (infection in the skin)
Infections do not require an opening in the skin. They can be blood borne and turn up anywhere.
Get a doctor to review
The uric acid blood test is not a reliable way to test for gout.
Joint aspiration is a reasonable thing if the doctor thinks this could be a septic joint. It can diagnose gout specifically (visualized uric acid crystals under microscopy) and pseudogout (different crystals – calcium pyrophosphate – different polarization) and it can diagnose septic arthritis (presence of bacteria and pus).
Diabetes is not likely to by itself cause a red hot swollen and painful foot. However this is a good point (if only a minor issue) as diabetes could well be an underlying illness giving rise to increased susceptibility to infection and/or poorer healing.
I’m not sure that altering your diet is going to have any short term effects that would be appreciable here.

James asks…
Does anyone know any kind of pain treatment for Diabetic nerve damage that is natural or herbal?
My mother is 63 years old and has Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes, Shingles, Gout, Edema, and Lung Disease. Over the past 14 months she has injured the bottom of her feet , the first injury occur ed when she stepped on an ice cube that was on the kitchen floor. She didn’t slip and she did not fall but the pain that was to come for the next 2 weeks was most excruciating and almost unbearable at times! She could not walk on either foot or bear any weight on them, it was really unbelievable the pain in both feet from so little trauma to the one foot!! About 8 days ago she stepped on a little bitty piece of macaroni on the kitchen floor and has been writhing in pain and unable to walk ever since!! She has been taking Ati van and Tram dole for the pain but its pretty much not doing anything. What Im wondering is if there is any Herbal or natural products to help ease this type of pain??

admin answers:
Capcasin Cremes.
These are available Over The Counter at most pharmacies.
Capcasin is the chemical in jalapenos that makes them “hot”. But when rubbed on the hands and feet, it deadens the pain.
But the BEST remedy is to KEEP the blood sugars in the normal range. When the blood sugars are kept in the normal range for long periods of time, the symptoms of diabetes, including the nerve pain, will reduce.
